Work by self-taught artists on view at the Armory Show

Look out for work by self-taught American artists at the Armory Show, NYC, March 3-6, 2011. The self-taught material will be on view in Pier 92, the section of the show dedicated to historically significant modern as well as contemporary art.

Noted dealers in self-taught art, including Fleisher/Ollman and Ricco/Maresca, will be present at the show. I am particularly excited to see Andrew Edlin‘s booth, as he plans to showcase work by artist Thornton Dial, the subject of a current retrospective at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and a recent addition to the gallery’s roster of artists.

UPDATE: Andrew Edlin Gallery kindly provided an image of a fantastic new Dial construction that will be on view in their booth. Enjoy!

This piece is quite different from the work I associate with Thornton Dial, but it is equally compelling. Are there others of this nature?
